Introduction
The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Core
programme is an internationally recognised qualification that enables
university students & staff to demonstrate their competence in
using a personal computer and common computer applications at a basic
level.
The ECDL Core programme is aimed at ordinary
computer users rather than technical computer people. It aims to:
- promote and encourage computer literacy for all;
- raise the level of knowledge about Information
Technology (IT) and the level of competence in using personal computers
and common computer applications for all citizens within Europe and
internationally;
- ensure all computer users understand best practices
and the advantages of using a personal computer;
- increase the productivity of all employees who need
to use computers in their work;
- enable better returns for investments in IT;
- provide a basic qualification which allows all
people, regardless of their background, to be part of the Information
Society.

follow the ECDL Advanced
programme


ECDL
Core Syllabus V4.0
The ECDL Core Syllabus V4.0 is
designed
to cover the key concepts of computing, the practical applications of
computers and their use in the workplace and society in general. The
syllabus is broken down into 7 modules, each of which must be passed
before the ECDL Core certificate will be awarded.
The modules are:
- Module
1 - Concepts of IT
- Module 2 - Using the Computer & Managing
Files
- Module 3 - Word Processing
- Module 4 - Spreadsheets
- Module 5 - Database
- Module 6 - Presentation
- Module 7 - Information & Communication

Structure
of the Course & Fee
From time to time the IT Services organises
training
courses that prepare university students & staff to sit for ECDL Core tests. The courses
cover the skill sets indicated in the standard ECDL
Core syllabus. The courses are held on campus at the IT
Services
computer laboratories.
- The ECDL course consists of 18 sessions. Each
session is of a 2 hour duration.

Note that:
- The
course is based on MS Windows XP, MS Word 2002/XP, MS Excel 2002/XP, MS
Access 2002/XP, MS Powerpoint 2002/XP, Mozilla FireFox &
Mozilla Thunderbird.
- The course is intended for beginners and assumes no
prior knowledge of computers.
- The tuition fees have been kept to an absolute
minimum and are necessary to cover tuition and administration costs.
The above fees do not include courseware available for download here.
- University students are eligible to follow the ECDL
Core course until the end of September of the same year in which they
complete their course of studies at the University of Malta.

The above course will be held at FEMA Lab on Mondays & Wednesdays between 1330-1530.
The course will be organised subject to a
minimum
number of 10 participants. Maximum number of participants for each
course is 15.
Waiting List Request
You can ask to be placed on the course
waiting list if you are interested in following the ECDL Core
course. You will be notified by e-mail or
phone when the next course is scheduled.
Users should only complete the form if the course is full or the
sessions are on dates/time not convenient for them.

Course
Registration
University students & staff can register
for ECDL Core course/s when these are scheduled.
- University
students - are requested to come personally at IT Services Reception Desk to
register for the ECDL Core course/s. Payment can be made by SMGB
(Stipends) card or cheque addressed to the 'IT Services'.
- Academic
staff - can authorise
payment through their personal academic work resources funds
allocation. Payment can also be made by cheque addressed to the
'IT Services'.
- Administrative
& Technical Staff
- are requested to apply for ECDL Core course/s through the Further
Training & Work Resources Fund Non-Academic Committee. Payment
can also be made by cheque addressed to the 'IT Services'.
Registrations are accepted on a first-come
first-served basis. The IT Services reserves the right not to proceed
with a
course in which case a full refund will be issued.
