Cameras -
The main camera is set to show the videoconferencing suite and can be directed to the seated audience to focus
on any speaker. This camera is equipped with a microphone. A second camera is used to
show the tutor as s/he is facing the local audience. Both cameras have automatic pan, tilt and zoom
capabilities. They are also equipped with speakers.
Power Microphone - This microphone is available in
addition to the main camera microphone. The power microphone focuses on the speaker/s and eliminates background
noise.
Monitors - Two monitors are used to display the
audience at the remote site/s. A third monitor, known as the document monitor, is used to display the objects/printed
material shown on the document camera (read further down). The document monitor is also connected to the video
cassette player and therefore can also be used to show videotapes.

Codec (conferencing unit) - This unit controls the
transmission and reception of the audio and video. The codec is also equipped with built-in speakers.
Document camera - This is used to show printed
documents, pictures or small 3D objects. It consists of a flat platform with a camera mounted above. The
platform can be lit from above for documents and objects, and from below for transparencies, radiographs,
etc.
Workstation - This is used for sharing data
(e.g. PowerPoint presentations, applications etc) with the remote.
Data projector & projection screen - The
projector is connected to the workstation and the codec. During a session, the projector can be set to display
the computer-based presentation or the conferencing images on the projection screen.
Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) -
The VCR is used to create videotape recordings of the remote end part for documentation purposes.
